There were a number of important explorers who began the first explorations. They were:

1. John Cabot
2. Jacques Cartier
3. Samuel de Champlain
4. James Cook
5. Martin Frobisher
6. Henry Hudson

Assignment
Choose one of the explorers from the above list. Use one of the following tools to tell about the explorer you choose.

Use the list below as a guide to help you tell about an explorer.

1. Tell about your explorer?
- dates of birth and death (where he was born, and where he died)
- how did he decide to become an explorer (or did it just happen)?
- what was your explorer famous for?

2. What journeys or explorations did your explorer go on?
- who paid for your explorer to go on these expeditions (if anyone)?
- where did your explorer go?
- when did he go on these expeditions?
- include a map showing the route taken.

3. Describe the most important expedition in detail
- means of travel(e.g. ship, canoe, dog sled, foot, horseback, balloon, etc.)
- hardships/troubles/problems that he encountered
- people he met along the way (if anyone)
- any interesting or unusual facts
- was the trip considered a success at the time?
